Acacia

how do you pronounce Acacia?

where does the name Acacia come from?

From the Greek ἀκακία (akakia), the name of the thorn tree, generally traced to akē meaning point or thorn. Latin took the word directly from Greek as the botanical genus name, and English inherited it unchanged from the Latin.

In ancient Egypt, the acacia was associated with the goddess Neith and was considered sacred.

the history of Acacia

The acacia carries unusual symbolic weight for a tree. Its wood is named in Exodus as the material of the Ark of the Covenant, and because the tree is evergreen and notably hard to kill it became an emblem of immortality in both Christian and Masonic symbolism. As a given name it belongs to the wave of botanical names English speakers adopted through the twentieth century.
